The progress in research toward the conservation of coconut biodiversity in Sri Lanka and the utilization of germplasm for the development of improved cultivars is reviewed.
Description: Coconut trees produce large nuts that are cultivated for food, cooking oil, and fiber. In this photograph, one can easily see the clusters of coconuts just below the palm fronds. The nuts are adapted for dispersal by water and are naturally found along the shores of tropical lands.
