I just had bamboo floors installed into my new home. The product came with an aluminum oxide urethane finish. The flooring industry has been touting bamboo floors and this coating as the hardest wood available with a coating just about impervious to anything. Wow, were they wrong!
Bamboo is cut fresh and at the nodes leaving one end open. The bamboo is filled with jello or juice and refrigerated or frozen, whichever is appropriate, for at least 24 hours.

I worked out this recipe in an attempt to duplicate the Mandarin Soup served at the Peking Royal Kitchen in Pittsburgh. My friends all agree that it is a good replica; some prefer my version to the ``real thing.''
