Growing bamboo on their land could help African farmers to improve the safety of their food crops and generate precious additional income, researchers at The University of Nottingham believe.
The purpose was to investigate the potential contribution of bamboo cultivation, harvesting and processing to rural development, given an appropriate policy and economic environment. The project has compiled general county-level information and details on 200 households and dozens of industries.

Consequently, many extraordinary and vulnerable species such as lemurs, giant pandas and mountain gorillas that depend almost entirely on bamboo for food and shelter face an even-greater struggle for survival.
