The stems, or 'culms', can range in height from a few centimeters to 40 metres, with stem diameters ranging from 1 mm to 30 cm. The stems are jointed, with regular nodes; each node bears one leaf, and may also have one to several side branches.
The annual crop of bamboo is estimated at 10 million tons, which equals about 8 million kms of bamboo or 200 times the circumference of the earth. How then can we make the most of all this bamboo? Let's have a closer look at the most important advantages and disadvantages of bamboo.

The International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) is an international organization established by treaty in November 1997, dedicated to improving the social, economic, and environmental benefits of bamboo and rattan.
Bamboo is a diverse group of plants with over 1,200 species ranging in size from miniatures to towering giants of over 150 feet. Bamboo is cosmopolitan in origin and is among the most ancient plants in the grass family (Poaceae). Most bamboo is not native to the tropics.
This is a part of GGIAs schools on the road, joining Athens, Rome and Perry as locations for these training events. We expect this school to become an annual event.
