Carrots are a cool season crop. They are grown for their fleshy, and tasty storage roots. The carrot is native to Europe and parts of Asia. The carrot is mentioned in some ancient Greek writings; however, the carrot we know is relatively new due to improvements by plant breeding.

4. Wild Carrot.
A biennial with a taproot of distinctive odor. The plant is stiff and hairy, 1 to 3 feet tall. Leaves are divided several times. Flowers grow in a fat-top umbel, often centered by one or several minute, dark purple flowers. A weed introduced about 1900, now grows nearly throughout the U.S.
