In the area of south-eastern and -western Styria grape vine is a widely spread crop. In these areas the cultivation of grape vine and the production of vine is an important economical factor. Nowadays the by-product grape pomace mostly is composted and used as a fertilizer in the grape yards.
Egyptians consumed this fruit at least 6,000 years ago, and several ancient Greek philosophers praised the healing power of grapes -- usually in the form of wine. European folk healers developed an ointment from the sap of grapevines to cure skin and eye diseases.
3. Seedless grape fruit. These are European type grapes (Vitis vinifera) and although they are called seedless - do have seed traces (aborted seeds) which if properly cultured can be grown into plants.
Grape phylloxera is an insect native to the eastern United States, where it subsists on native grape varieties. Most native varieties have developed a tolerance to the insect. Historically, grape phylloxera has been of minor concern in these growing areas.
This grape ripens at 'Concord' time and keeps well on the vine or in storage for two months without breakdown. This large, yellow grape is produced on extra large, compact clusters, and somewhat resembles the Vitis vinifera Malaga.
