Grapes are widely grown in home gardens for fruit and landscape purposes or commercially for wine, raisins, or fresh consumption. Grapes, on a commercial scale, are the world's most widely grown deciduous fruit crop.
Vitis riparia is the most common wild grape in Wisconsin. Leaves are alternate, simple and lobed (there can be dramatic differences in the lobing pattern from one leaf to the next). The lobes are generally sharp-pointed and there are also large sharp teeth along the margin.
A common grape of low woods in the Mountains and Piedmont. Young branches are angled and relatively smooth. The nodes tend to be reddish. The leaves are glabrous to slightly pubescent beneath.
