The muscadine grape (Vitis rotundifolia) is a native grape species found in the southeastern United States. It grows wild throughout North Carolina and will survive in areas where other grape species will not. The fruit is generally harvested as single berries rather than in bunches.

Cause: Uncinula necator, a a fungal disease common to all areas of the PNW. The disease tends to be more severe on the westside of the Cascades but is a chronic problem in arid districts where over-the-canopy irrigation is used for early-season frost protection or watering.

Grape phylloxera is an insect native to the eastern United States, where it subsists on native grape varieties. Most native varieties have developed a tolerance to the insect. Historically, grape phylloxera has been of minor concern in these growing areas.
The grape leaffolder is a common and widely distributed species that is a minor pest of grapes in the United States. In California severe outbreaks have occurred in restricted areas during some years. These outbreaks have been associated with failures of parasites to attain their normal levels.
