The dingo is in danger of extinction in the wild. Hybridisation with domestic dogs being common, with hybrids being difficult to distinguish from pure dingoes. Breeding programs to preserve the dingo have begun, but the purity of their breeding stock is unknown. The DNA tests developed in this project will be used to identify pure dingoes.
